A 2D & 3D composition practice inspired by Paul Klee

In Paul Klee’s painting of selling boards,
I discovered a special technique for
distinguishing color blocks after intersecting
lines. This coloring technique that blurs the
relationship between the front and back
of an object has inspired me to represent
the interlacing of spatial Sections on a twodimensional
plane.

Composition 1

Composition 1

In the first composition, I attempted to reproduce Paul Klee’s soft curve technique
and used the same technique to distinguish color blocks. At the same time, I
attempted to break continuous curves at intersections and add bold lines to
enhance the deconstruction and section of this space.

COMPOSITION 2

Composition 2

In the second composition, I transformed the image into a simpler and more
direct straight line composition, and further attempted to create the illusion of
overlapping relationships between the front and back of the patches on the
plane. I further strengthened this idea by using two methods: color and bold
lines.

Spatial Composition

On the basis of the second plane composition, I have extruded the lines into
walls, and also elevated the bold lines used to emphasize changes in the
composition, becoming the more important constituent elements in the space.
The raised wall further blurs the two-dimensional readable rectangle in space,
forming a fully sliced spatial experience.
